Smoke Dreams BBQ was formed in the summer of 2008 under the name "Goofus and the Noobs". Our first competition was COF-A-Que in Aldie, Virginia. Despite being true noobs on the BBQ scene, we took 1st place in brisket, 2nd place in pork, and 2nd in beef (non-brisket). In addition to winning these accolades, we had a great time and knew that we would be back. We returned to COF-A-Que in 2009 and 2010 to additional success in the eyes (and on the palates) of the judges. We also received acclaim by the revelers at the event.
In the winter of 2010 the ol' Goofus started developing a plan to elevate the team to the KCBS circuit. In February 2011 the idea was shared with the team, and they subsequently agreed to participate in some KCBS events. Given that the team members were no longer noobs, the name was changed to "Smoke Dreams BBQ".
